Independence Day Celebrations 2008

14th August is celebrated all over Pakistan with patriotic fervor, since this was the day people of the subcontinent realized their dream of a separate & independent homeland after many struggles and sacrifices. At St-Michael’s Convent School, a one hour program was held to not only celebrate our independence, but also to renew own pledge to focus all our energy and resources towards the improvement of this country.

The program commenced with the school chair singing the National Anthem & School Song and the hoisting of the National & School Flags at the same time. This was followed by a soulful recitation from the Holy Quran by the Class X Islamiat teacher, Mr. Ishaq Khan Niazi and a reading from the Holy Bible by Trisha Serena Anthony of class XI C.

Students from the Primary (Morn & Aft) and Secondary sections then took their turns to sing & perform on National Songs of their choice. The songs ranged from evergreen classics like “Is Parcham ke Saaye Tale” (Primary-Aft), ‘Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan’ (Class X-XI), ‘Dil Di Pakistan’ (Primary-morn) to the biggest chart toppers of our decade, ‘Jazba Junoon (Class VII), ‘Hum hain Pakistani Hum to jeete Gain’ (Class VI) & ‘Dil Se’ (Class VIII-IX). The energetic and enthusiastic performances got everyone ecstatic, and soon the entire audience joined in with the participants.

Besides these performances, Mariam (V), Priya Anoop (XI C) & Sadia Hamid Mir (A-2) rendered captivating speeches by speaking passionately about the importance of 14th August and the struggles Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal and other forefathers faced in converting the dream into a reality. The highlight of the program was Mahwish Siddique’s (A-2) personal take on the all time famous poem ‘Lab Pe Aati Hain Dua’ by Allama Iqbal. Her satirical view on the politics, politicians & economic conditions of modern Pakistan echoed everybody’s concern to improve the present condition of the country!

After the performances & speeches were over, Mrs. Naiyer (Deputy Principal) was invited on stage to speak a few words. She congratulated & thanked everybody on being a part of this day and prayed that the country & its citizens would be blessed to celebrate this day for many years to come.

The finale saw the entire student body present goes up on stage and sing their heart out one last time on ‘Jazba Junoon’ while the teachers & other Staff members looked on with smiles on their faces.

The show was a Big Success!!

THE WIZARD OF OZ

On 17th November 2007, our junior Michleans, the students of grade V and grade VI, confidently presented and performed one of the best concerts ever organized by the school. The theme of the concert was a musical adaptation of “The Wizard of OZ”.

It all began in October 2006, when Music classes began to be held with none other than Mr. Berganza. His guidance and encouragement made a gigantic task seem simple enough to achieve. The teaching staff and the students put in their heart and soul in organizing the concert and making it a great success.

A total of 365 students participated in the concert. The stage equaled any other of international standard and was beautifully decorated. The whole ambience was breathtaking since attention was paid even to the minutest detail while setting up the stage.

The Dress rehearsal was held on 16th November 2007, a day before the Final Program. Grandparents and siblings were invited to view the efforts put in by both the students and the teachers. Parents were invited to view the efforts of their children the very next day.

On the grand day, the concert commenced at 7:15 sharp. As soon as the concert stated, the audience was engrossed in the imaginary world of DOROTHY, the leading character of the musical. The other main characters too delivered their dialogues with finesse and sung their hearts out while the rest of the supporting characters were equally confident and enthusiastic, making everyone present wonder: ‘ARE THESE CHILDREN BORN ACTORS OR WHAT!!!’

It was evident from the presentation that stress and importance was laid on position placing, dancing and singing. The concert was a great success as the audience broke into a rapturous applause after each performance.

A wise man once said, “All Good Things Come in Small Packages”. In the end, it seemed that the tiring early Morning rehearsals had paid-off since the outcome was awesome. The audience, which included parents as well as the school staff, was so absorbed, rather lost, in the concert that no one realized when the Concert came to an end!!! Afterwards, the entire cast of The Wizard of OZ gathered on stage and was received by a huge round of applause by the audience.

In the end, the Chief Co-ordinator congratulated and appreciated the hard work and effort put in by the students and the teaching staff of the Primary and Secondary section. Before ending the speech, the Chief Co-ordinator proudly announced that the parents could look forward to another wonderful concert next year.

Welcome Party

The welcome party which was arranged by the A level second year students on Saturday 27 October 2007 in the Royal Rodale Club was a memorable experience for all the A levels students. The welcome party was supposed to be held before and it was delayed first because of the holy month of Ramadan and then because of the uncertain political conditions in the city. Many students especially the first years were disappointed at the delay and many thought that welcome party was not supposed to be held at all for welcoming this new batch of A levels students. The students had a wide choice as to where the welcome party was to be held and after a mutual agreement it was decided that the welcome party should be held in the Royal Rodale Club like last year where students could not just only socialize wit their friends but also enjoy playing bowling. Eventually after a long delay the day came. Everyone was excited to dress up in causal clothes and every student tried his/her best to dress up smartly and to look good. Generally almost every student was dressed up I a decent way. The welcome party was a great opportunity for the students to develop the relationship of friendship with each other and the friendship gap between A level first years and second years was narrowed. The welcome party was not just enjoyed by the students but also the teachers who enjoyed bowling with the students. The menu was also appreciated by almost all those who attended the welcome part accept a few students who thought that there should have been some verity in the sweet dishes. Students enjoyed taking photograph to keep as memories for their future. The time past extremely fast and it was 3pm already students had to say good-bye to their friends and teachers with a hope to meet each other on Monday.
