The Literary
Society
As the academic year of 2009-10 commenced in high, excited spirits;
the anxiety of the prospective gown holders reached its maximum.
A few days later, the heads were announced and with that came our
mutual decision to establish various societies for our students.
I, Ramsha Firdous am the Head Proctor of this esteemed institution
and President of the Literary Society. Uzair Tajuddin (Head of the
Literary Society) and Mudassir Shah Akhter (trainer, judge and member)
have helped me beyond measures to establish this society and to
run it successfully. The Literary Society was exclusively formed
to instill in the students not only the art of writing and debating,
but also to develop a keen interest in English Language.
When I first made the announcement for debating auditions, I got
such an overwhelming positive response. The turnover for the debating
auditions was plausible; a new, amore spontaneous and interactive
style of debating-Parliamentary Debate amongst our fellow students.
We were successful in training the short listed students for this
unique and impressive form of debating and it became an achievement
for us to have trained the potential debaters for our school.
Next milestone came when I laid the foundation for the “Minerva
Editorial Board.” An exclusive primary division which will
collect, edit and compile various English contributions from our
primary section. The members for these boards were the hand picked
students who at a very tender age exceeded expectations of their
teachers in the field of English writing. I was impressed when we
first met at our formal meeting; their style of speaking and young
inquisitive, curious minds which asked me many questions inspired
me to do something for them and I am contented that I have.
However, the break through of my society was the production of the
first ever school journal-The Dragon Slayer. This was an entirely
new concept which I (editor of the journal) bought. I must comment
that our Alevel students contributed generously to make the Dragon
Slayer what it is today- a master piece. Thank you all so much.
Lastly, it is my dream that the Literary Society prospers and this
is only possible with the positive and welcoming response of the
students. Rest assured, this society will indeed discover and exploit
the literary you.
