SPORTS DAY HELD ON THE 13TH OF FEB 2010

“Ready, on your marks, get set and Whistle,” the racers dash at the whistle wanting nothing else, but to be the first ones to cross the finish line. You got that right. It was indeed the Annual Sports Day 2009-2010, the most awaited event of the year.
The tents were filled with parents and students, cheering for their respective houses. The event began with the colorful, enthusiastic and grand PT display by the students of the primary section. It was great to watch the young children forming various patterns especially the “star.” It was well coordinated.
The event proceeded further with the march past lead by the Head Boy, Mohammad Shahzeb Khan of A-2 with the Pakistan Flag. Following him was the Head Girl, Sameen Asif of A-2 carrying the St.Michael’s Plaque with great pride. After Sameen was the Head House Captain Owais Haider Khan Swati who was holding the School’s Flag with great dignity. Behind Owais was Maridh Javed with the Sports Flag. Maham Khan, the Head House Captain followed Maridh with St.Michaels’s flag.
Following them were the House captains Fatima Akbar and Talha Chaudhry (Yellow House), Rabia Abdullah and Asmar Hussain (Green House), Saba Razzaque and Aadil Ahmed Panhwar (Blue House) and Saba Shalwani and Mirza Mushtaq (Red House) behind whom were their respective house supporters and athletes wearing their respective House shirts, making the ground look more colorful and lively.
The stage was set for the oath taking which was taken by Zehra Kamaluddin and Khizer Hamid, soon after which the games were declared open by Mr. Peter Misquita and the games torch was lit by Azam Sheikh and Zohra Lasi of class X.
Finally, the finals of the event scheduled for the Sports Day began. The first event to take place was the tug of war which gained immense attention by the audience. Following the tug of war were the newly introduced races; Butterfly race, King Queen race and the Kangroo race which took place among the junior students. Indeed these were the cutest races of all.
One by one the events completed and the results were compiled. Various races made their way through Lower Nursery and ended with the A levels. Finally the grand Inter House Shuttle Relay took place. This was the last of the events.
Soon after, the House Captains grabbed their House Flags and assembled in the ground to hear the final results. Before that could happen, the prize distribution for the yearly performances was held. Talha Chaudhry and Munam Yousufi were awarded the Sports Players of the Year. Owais Haider Khan Swati and Sameen Asif were given the award for Sports Person of the Year and Maridh Javed and Aliza Fatima were the Exceptionally Courteous Sportsman/Sportswomen respectively.
Yellow House was declared the Champions for the year 2009-10. The athletes of Yellow House showed their excitement and gathered on the stage to receive the Champions Trophy.
The event was much enjoyed, an event which will be anxiously waited for the next year. It was the commitment and dedication of the Sports Department which made the event a success. Therefore, I thank Mr Irfan, Mr. Christopher and the other sports teachers on behalf of the students for all their support and hard work. It is because of them that the spirit of Sports lives in the students of this Institution.
