FOR 2009-2010
ST MICHAEL’S CONVENT SCHOOL KARACHI
EVENTS/EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
• Independence Day was celebrated on Friday August 14, 2009
but prior to that rehearsal was conducted on 13 August.
• Award Ceremony rehearsal was carried out on 12 August whereas
the event was organized on Saturday 15, 2009. Later booklets and
list of the participants were compiled for both the events and certificates
were issued
• Zohra Lassi(X-C), Swaleha Khalid(XI-B)and Zehra Ilyas participated
in National Scrabble Championship on 16th August and won the Champion’s
Trophy beating 96 schools.
• An Invitation from iEARN was circulated amongst all teachers
on 18th August to apply for Doris Duke Scholarship of Professional
Development online course. Only Ms Farah Rahim from VII volunteered
and she was awarded the scholarship.
• The Activity sheets about ‘ My Dream of the World…’sent
by Children Museum for Peace and Human Rights were filled in by
the students Of Primary Section and sent back to CMPHR on 27th August.
• Students from all sections of VIII were taken to the Computer
lab for Gen. Science Multimedia Presentation (The Circle of Life)
from 31st August to 4th September. Later they were taken to the
Chemistry lab for the experiment on ‘The Particulate Model
of Matter’ on 28th and 29th September.
• KFC charity drive was initiated in the school by sending
forms to all sections on 2nd September. Gifts from 455 students
were collected till 15th September for different orphanages.
• Mrs Juliet Lobo’s written Script for Christmas was
finalized on 3rd September.
• Write ups from students and teachers in memory of late Salman
Hassan of the Primary section were given to Mrs Samina Soomro on
3rd Sep. for Publication in Collage.
• Inter Class Naat and Qirat competition(VI-VIII)was organized
on 4th September
• The school was registered for Dawn Spelling Bee on 4th Sep.
• Inter Class Naat’Qirat competition of IX-XI was organized
on 7th Sep.
• Students from all section of VIII were auditioned for the
selection of Shah Willayat Inter School Bilingual Declamation. Speakers
for Urdu and English were registered. Mustafain Ahmed (VIII-D) and
Ibrahim Shah (VIII-E) participated in the Inter School Bilingual
Declamation at Shah Wilayat School on 15th October. Mustafain Ahmed(VIII-D)
clinched the 1st position in Udru Declamation.
• Students for Rotary Club Debate were auditioned and the
selected speakers from class IX (Saba Jamil & Faryal Shariff)
were registered.
• Students were also selected and registered for two different
categories from classes VII, VIII (Asad Ahmed Khan& Kendrick
Ambrose) and class XI (Sanya Sheraz & Tasmeena Maryam) for International
School of Studies Debate.
• Students from A level were prepared and later sent for the
Parliamentary style debate at Karachi Grammar School from 25th to
27th September.
• Committees were formed and briefed for Eid Milan Party celebrated
on 26th September.
• A presentation was arranged for A Level Students’
awareness about Young Leaders Entrepreneurial Summit by the marketing
manager of LUMS Business Idea Competition on 28th September.
• Feast Day mass was held in the auditorium on 29th September.
• Invitation for the musical show related to traffic rules
to be organized by Family Educational Services was sent to Mrs.
Shaheen Naim on 29th Sep. for Primary students’ participation.
• Students submitted essays on 30th September for the Essay
Competition by National Museum of Science and Technology Lahore
which were sent to the concerned authority on the same day.
• SZABIST MUN invitation was received on 1st October. The
In Charge of A Levels and students were informed, however no team
volunteered to participate.
• DAWN Spelling Bee teams were finalized for categories 9-11,
12-14 and 15-17 and registered on 12th October.
• Institutional membership (Renewal) card was received from
Children‘s Museum for Peace and Human Rights on 7th October.
• Another invitation was received from the Citizens’Archive
of Pakistan on 8th October for confirmation of our students’
visit to Shanakht Festival. Initially 50 students and four teachers
were registered. Later on the number was reduced to 15 students
and two teachers due to chaos in the country. They visited the festival
later on 11th November.
• Another invitation was received from Children‘s Museum
for Peace and Human Rights on 12th October for a ‘Walk to
Raise Awareness about Climate Change’. Students from A Levels
were interested to join the walk on 17th October but later it was
postponed by CMPHR.
• A letter was received from Dawn Spelling Bee on 12th October
informing us about the availability of booklets compiled for the
contestants. Ms Bilquis(librarian) was requested for the follow
up.
• A meeting was held on 13th October regarding the Christmas
play. It was attended by Mr Braganza, Mrs Juliet Lobo, Ms Irfana
Razzaq, Mr Sohail Ahmed and Mr. Jaffrey. Minutes of the meeting
were submitted to the Deputy Principal 0n 14th October.
• Saba Jamil(X- C) and Faryal Shariff (X-B) took part in a
debate at Marriot organized by Rotary Club on 15th October.
• An invitation was received from Youth Welfare Association
for ‘Wild Child Painter’s Competition’ on 15th
October. A student from age 9-11 had to be selected. Mrs Irfana
Razzaq selected Maula Bux of class V, who was prepared for the contest
to be held on 11th November.
• An Art Competition was held in the school on Saturday 17th
October for classes VII to A Levels. About 66 students participated
enthusiastically. Top three position holders in three categories
(VI-VIII, IX-X and XI-A Levels) as well as the participants were
awarded certificates later.
• Inter Class Urdu Declamation Contest for classes VI-VIII
was organized on 19th October and all the students from these classes
witnessed it.
• Two teams(Sanya Sheraz(XI-B), Tasmeena Maryam(XI-C) and
Kenderick Ambrose (VIII-C), Asad Ahmed(VII) participated in a Debate
Contest at International School of Studies on 29th October. Kenderick
Jude Ambrose of VIII-C got the 3rd position amongst 46 contestants.
• Iqbal Week was celbrated from 2nd till 10th November. Students
from class VI to A- Levels gave presentations throughout the week
on Allama Iqbal’s poetry.
• Inter Class Urdu Declamation of classes IX-XI, previously
postponed due to unforeseen holidays, was organised in the auditorium
on 5th November’09.
• A team from Intellectual Capital Enhancement representing
Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar came on 11th November to
brief the Art teachers and students of A-Levels about the Art Design
Contest based on recycling the waste material. The winner of this
contest will be awarded fully funded scholarship to study in Qatar.
• Two speakers (Javeria Khalid Pettiwala and Sana-e-Zehra
of X-B) participated in a Bilingual Declamation Contest at Dawood
Public School Bahadurabad on 11th November. Javeria Khalid won the
3rd position in English Declamation whereas Sana-e-Zehra got 3rd
prize in Urdu Declamation and received shields in their specific
category.
• A team comprising fifteen students from classes VII-XI attended
Shanakht Festival organised by the Citizens Archive of Pakistan
at Imperial Gardens Clifton on 11th November.
• Mrs Zaibunissa Azhar , Mr Arif, Mr Sohail (IX-XI), Ms Leena(VIII)
and Ms Mahwish(vii) were sent circulars on 12th November to collect
money from students interested to participate in Canadian Maths
Competition.
• An English Declamation contest for students of classes VI-VIII
was organized in the auditorium on 13th November.
• Mrs Shahzadi Banani (Science teacher of VIII) and Tsallah
Thawerani (Science teacher of VI) attended a professional development
workshop on MDGs organized by iEARN Pakistan on 13th November.
• Sareen Mukhtar of X-C participated in an Elocution Contest
at Foundation Public School College Campus on 19th November.
• Maham Khan and Mudassir of A Level attended a workshop on
leadership qualities and Aisha Tabeer of X-C participated in Urdu
Oration on Universal Children Day (20th Nov) Celebration at Beach
Luxury Hotel organized by iEARN Pakistan.
• Sara Ajaz of X-B made a speech in the Assembly on Universal
Children Day.
• Students attended A levels’ Bake Sale on 20th November
celebrating Universal Children Day.
• The English Declamation of classes IX-XI was conducted on
23rd November.
• Falah Jawaid of VIII-A made a speech on Eid-ul-Azha on 26th
November.
• Three teams were registered on 26th November for Art, Quiz
and National song competition to be held later at Habib Public School.
• Meetings were held to coordinate with the committee members
of O’ Level Bonfire as well as the Christmas Play regarding
titles, rehearsals, props and décor etc.
• Copies of invitation from River Oaks Academy were sent on
4th December to the Incharge Primary section, Class VI Head teacher
and A Levels’ In Charge to select students for elocution and
speeches (English & Urdu).
• Rida Tafveez of VIII-A, who previously qualified for the
final getting 3rd position in semi final, won a prize of Rs 10.000
getting 8th position in All Karachi Urdu Speech Contest organised
by Dhaka Educational inst-itution on 9th December.
• A team from Children’s Museum for Peace and Human
Rights conducted a workshop for forty three (43) teachers on ‘I
have a dream for the world’ related to awareness about climate
changes in the school auditorium on 9th December.
• Clinton Joseph (XI-F) made a speech on the theme of Christmas
Celebration on 11th December.
• Participants of upcoming Dawn Spelling Bee Contest were
briefed about the preparation and shown a relevant CD for guidance
on 9th December.
• Students’ Art designs for United World Future Currency
Competition were sent through electronic media to the concerned
authority in Italy on 14th December. Later the original works were
also posted, which will be displayed in the World Money Fair in
Berlin getting International press coverage.
• Three teams comprising nine students (3 in each team) from
classes V, VII, X and XI participated in Art, Quiz and National
song competition at Habib Public School on 15th December. Mahwish
Hussain (XI-A) won the third prize in the Art Competition based
on theme’ A thing of beauty is a joy forever’.
• Final rehearsal of the Christmas Play was carried out in
the morning of 15th December.
• Bonfire was held for the students of class XI in the evening
of 15th December.
• Christmas Mass was attended by Christian students, teachers
and the office staff on 16th December.
• Christmas Play was staged in the evening of 17th December.
• Nine Posters made by students from the Primary and Secondary
sections were posted to CMPHR for a contest on the theme ‘Our
Planet in Trouble’ on 13th January.
• Inter Class English Elocution Contest (VI-VIII) was held
on 15th January whereas the same contest for classes IX to XI was
held on 19th January.
• Sixty nine (69) students of Environmental Management attended
a session by CMPHR related to their subject on 21st January.
• Sania sheraz (XI-B) and Tasmeena Maryam participated in
a Debate Competition at JINNAH University College on 28th January.
• Three teams of students from Primary to Class XI were registered
for WWF Carnival 2010. It was scheduled to be held on 31st January
first and now it will be held on 14th February 2010.
• Students were registered for international Kangroo Maths
Contest and Canadian Maths Contest on 27th January.
• Six students from Class V, VI, VII, IX, XI and A-Level sections
participated in Elocution and Declamation Contest at River Oaks
Academy on 30th January. Fatima Imam won the 1st Prize in Urdu Declamation
and Hania Saeed (AS-Level) grabbed 3rdprize in English Declamation.
• Sameen Asif (a-2) and Syed Mohd. Immad (AS Level) participated
in a Naat/ Qirat Contest at Bahria College Karsaz on 2nd February
• Falak Naz(AS Level) and Ali Jaffer (AS Level) took part
in a Bilingual Competition at at Bahria College Karsaz on 3rd February.
• Students from class V and VIII were registered on 3rd Feb.
for Maths Olympiad to be organized by PAK TURK School on 14th February.
• Swaleha Khalid (XI-B) will participate in All Pakistan English
Debate to be organized by St Patrick’s High School at Beach
Luxury Hotel on 6th February2010.
